Isaiah 16 Commentary: “David’s” throne of truth, justice, and righteousness.
The prophecy against Moab continues. Chapter 16 is complex because the prophet mentions Zion in the vision.
Let Moab find safety through an alliance with Jerusalem. Yes, Jerusalem, but not until David’s son becomes king – one whose throne will be established in truth, justice, and righteousness.
Will Moab take this offer of peace? Isaiah doubts. Moab is well-known for her pride. Her arrogance is great – self-important, insufferable, and full of hot air. But it is all in vain.
Moab’s trips to the shrines, the cults, or the devil-temples yield nothing. Zero hope! It’s a shame!
Let’s check the scoreboard again. Judah, zero. Israel, zero. Syria, zero. Moab, zero. Even the big boys, Assyria and Babylon, have zeroes.
But in the midst of these terrible results stands positivity. The Mountains of the LORD. Chapter 2. The Branch of Chapter 4. And then we have Immanuel and the Son born to us in succeeding chapters.
Chapter 16 mentions the throne of David with mercy, truth, justice, and righteousness in attendance. Verse 5.
It all points to the rule of the Son, the LORD Jesus Christ. Let the world investigate this space for truth. Let not pride be the reason one ends up in hell!
The lesson repeatedly underlined is that wickedness has an expiry date. But each lesson comes with a pointer to “Truth, mercy, justice, and righteousness.”
