Proverbs 6 Commentary

Proverbs 6 Commentary

Settle matters quickly with your adversary who is taking you to court – the LORD Jesus Christ. The first 5 verses reflect on this teaching. Of course, the LORD Jesus Christ is talking about the underlying rebellion within a man which must be settled here and now.

How to escape a jail term for a rebellious heart, it seems this is the core message from the LORD Jesus Christ. Verses 6 to 11 ponder ways to stay out of poverty. Quit being lazy.

Pride, lies, murder, wicked intentions, wicked actions, misrepresentations, and troublemakers; the LORD hates and punishes, consequently.

Then we have an extended teaching on sexual immorality. No excuses. Just like hunger is no excuse for stealing, sexual emotions are no reason for sin.

Adultery is a brainless act. Stealing is bad and punishable by law, but there is probably a rationale behind it, though clearly inexcusable. But you are senseless when you commit adultery because you are destroying yourself.

It can be had for a loaf of bread, but look at the cost!

The scripture has undressed sexual immorality to its real shape and intent. It is a very bad product. It can only sell by masking its real properties. And so the scripture posts a strong warning. Stay away.

Reading proverbs makes you feel like there is something missing. It is like expecting peace when you have a cat and a mouse in the same box! Humans are clearly incapable of righteousness. We are real failures. The more we try, the more we fail. We should be happy that this Book is simply a trailer to what we find under the rule of the Christ!

The impossible becomes possible. With Christ, these teachings are smooth and normal. The sheep of the Kingdom of God will find it impossible to do otherwise! Many have forgotten how to become angry! Former alcoholics have reported zero appetite for liquor! Real victory!

And we know humans can scale boundaries when they submit to the lordship of the LORD Jesus Christ. Real dominion returns!
