Be attentive to wisdom and exercise discrimination and discretion. Know the consequences of sin. Understand that the lure of sin is powerful. The seduction can be irresistible.
This chapter is beautifully and powerfully crafted using graphics of sexual interactions. Yes, it’s what it is, but more.
Deception isn’t aimless. You may be aimless and clueless about sin, but sin has its one agenda, to steal, kill, and destroy.
The scripture brings to the fore the madness of adultery. What you get from another man’s wife is no more than what you get for your own. Ponder.
Even a brief glance at logic would instruct you to stay away from adultery. Unless you don’t mind the beatings, wasting, dishonor, pain, and ultimately death.
Which sinner hasn’t sat down to hit their own head and question its functioning!
The reader may be drawn to a similar picture back in the Garden of peace and tranquility. All the fruits in the Garden of God were great to look at and also tasty, just like the forbidden fruit. Yes, it was attractive but no more than the other fruits that the LORD made and were readily available to the first couple.
Think about it: your own garden is just as great but without pain, shame, and eventually death. Decide. The options have been laid on the table. Sin is merciless. It is a one-way ticket to destruction, but you won’t tell from the attractive advertisements on display.
The teacher has fully unpacked his lesson in two very powerful PowerPoint presentations. He has used real-life sexual intimacy, with all its power and realities, to project a deep-lying fact of man’s rebellion against the Creator God. It is both an example and a consequence of man’s rebellion.
Let your way be far from her, don’t go near the door of her house. Avoid even being near the places of temptation. Practice social distancing. The message cannot be louder!
If the ‘sons listen’ and don’t depart from the teachings of the LORD, then there is no problem. They are missing nothing. Let them enjoy what they have.
One important pick from this chapter is that “innocent” foolishness doesn’t exist. The reader is encouraged to listen and keep a safe distance from places of temptation, understand the consequence of wickedness, appreciate the equally good and real greatness of God’s menu, and in view of all this, make the right call.
