Psalm 126 Commentary

Psalm 126 Commentary

We can see two sections. Verses 1 to 3 report on the events of the initial restoration. The captives are back in Jerusalem. The city is once again lively with people. It is a happy moment for the psalmist.

Verse 4 carries the thought that there is need more restoration. Some captives are yet to come. So Verse 4 carries the petition for more restoration.

The last 2 verses communicate a principle of life in the LORD Jesus Christ. Weep, but carry a seed with you. You will be happy when harvest time comes. The thought is that the saint must let their tears fall at the feet of the LORD Jesus Christ.

The possibility exists for seedless weeping. When it is all done, there is nothing to show for it. Faithless weeping is exactly what wickedness brings.

Suffering is real for all mortals. Of course, saints have it easy as the Spirit supplies the required peace. You won’t find a people as fulfilled as saints anywhere under the sun!

On the other hand, sinners have it rough all the way. Happiness is faked – the kind that comes with more emptiness. You fill one hole only to have several more hungry holes all around you.

It’s the punishment of life that humanity is truly never satisfied. Only in Jesus is this thirst truly quenched.

Regardless, the message is about the difference between seeded weeping and seedless weeping.

When the Creator God scattered man from the Garden of peace and tranquility, all humanity was exposed to pain and suffering. Physical treasures, physical pleasures, popularity, power, and wisdom, among many other things, won’t buy anyone a ticket back to the perfect times of Eden.

So we have pain and suffering in the mansion as well as in the ramshackle. We have pain and suffering on a bicycle and in a Lamborghini; on foot and on a private Jet.

But let there be seed for it, regardless. Then, and only then, can one expect to come back singing for joy as they bring in the harvest. The scripture is talking about faith and trust in the LORD Jesus Christ. Only He can bring real restoration.
