Psalm 99 Commentary

Psalm 99 Commentary

The LORD Reigns

Then the psalmist describes the reign of the LORD: Greatness, awesome, holiness, justice, righteousness, and forgiveness.

Let mortals respond with worship at His footstool. Verse 5.

The LORD reigns in the present. Let the peoples tremble; let the earth shake. It is all in the present. There is no delegation; there is neither a gap nor absence. The captain hasn’t abandoned the ship. The LORD reigns.

Trembling is for the nations. Shaking is for the earth. They shall see and exalt the great name of the LORD. But Jacob shall worship at His footstool and experience the holiness of the LORD.

Israel interacts with the LORD from a position of worship. Just like Moses and Aaron, and also Samuel, the saint can call upon the LORD and expect the LORD to respond.

Indeed, the LORD responded by giving Moses, Aaron, and Samuel laws to follow. The world defines its own rules, but the LORD responds by giving His people laws and regulations.

The LORD responds by giving us laws and regulations to follow. Let justice, righteousness, and holiness define the saint’s daily activities. The saint shall live by these laws and regulations.
