Proverbs 18 Commentary

Proverbs 18 Commentary

Words achieve different things for the fool and for the upright. A fool’s mouth is his ruin. His mouth invites a beating. On the other hand, when the mouth elects to host the name of the LORD, there is life and not death.

For the name of the LORD is a strong tower! You interact with the name of the LORD via your mouth!

Death and life are in the power of the tongue. When the tongue confesses the name of the LORD, an individual is completely safe.

Words mirror an individual’s heart.

Marriage and friendship can be great company, but the LORD is greater than they all!

You cannot give what you don’t have. You cannot have friends if you are not friendly!

You cannot trust rich people or material things. Don’t imagine wealth to be your fortified city. Don’t trust your connections and links, your many friends. They are all harsh and don’t mean well to you. But there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.

The words of the mouth are deep waters. They cut deeply, positively, or negatively.
