Psalm 139 Commentary

Psalm 139 Commentary

Psalm 139 is home to one of the most famous poster verses: “I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made …” Verse 14. Of course, the psalmist ponders God’s omnipresence – the state or quality of being present everywhere at the same time.

Omniscience is also underlined – everything to do with unlimited understanding and infinite wisdom.

How does it work for humanity?

Terrible things! Source of unlimited confusion for the human brain! The finite is poorly designed to understand infinity!

“Such knowledge is too wonderful for me,” David explains.

Both creator and master of time and space! Then knowledge, presence, and power. Then you have God. Then you also have more confusion!

Atop it all is love for love’s sake. Then you have good intentions flowing from a good heart, hence the creation of humanity!

God doesn’t show up at conception. God shows up at each conception down your family tree, ensuring that all parameters are in place for your sake. That would be thousands of times before you are born!

Stand in awe of the Creator God!

But others lack understanding of God. They are wicked. David hates them!

Then David prays his usual prayer. He could be wicked on his own and for himself. Let the LORD search his heart for wickedness. Then let the LORD lead him in the right way.

It’s a prayer to repeat daily!
