Psalm 122 Commentary
All peace. All joy. That’s how you describe the Christian walk!
News of a trip to the House of God is tremendous news.
We have a community of believers that delivers the news to an individual. Then a group of happy individuals goes to the House of God.
Yes, we have a community. But we also have communities herein called tribes. Local bible-believing churches would fit this picture.
So we have communities of believers scattered everywhere on the globe.
Observe these communities. They are happy! They enjoy the peace of the LORD. They may not have much, but with the peace of the LORD, they have everything! The “everything” includes generosity. They care for one another.
The scriptures envision spiritual families of care, generosity, peace, justice, and prosperity. Justice is introduced by the mention of “Thrones of judgment”.
The saint has a reason to pray for peace wherever there is conflict. It’s because of these god-fearing communities. Yes, “For the sake of my brethren and companions.”
This psalm invites the reader to set up his own laboratory and examine the thoughts presented here. Are saints happy to belong to Jesus? Is there substance to the claims that they are glad to go to the House of God?
Now, let the world examine the right specimen. You don’t take a goat to the lab and expect the results of a sheep! You will find none! You will have spoiled your own experiment!
