Exodus 16 Commentary

Exodus 16 Commentary

Chapter 15 was about a praise song that was quickly followed by grumbling—anti-praise. Interestingly, this grumbling was against the same God who received all the praise possible—and so in a matter of days!

We have another shortage: food. Yes, yet another opportunity to show their reliance on the LORD God—the same God who worked wonders a couple of days and months ago! Yes, yet another wasted opportunity—a wasted lecture! Israel grumbles again.

Manna and quails come but Manna has rules – yet another test!

You gathered only as much as you needed, daily. The point stands for all time. God’s provisions are daily – one day at a time, perfectly encapsulated by the instructions in the Lord’s Prayer. “Give us today our daily bread”.

Countless troubles arise each time we attempt to resolve tomorrow’s problems today. Let tomorrow take care of itself. It means the saint must wait until tomorrow to go out and gather Manna for tomorrow. Many commit suicide for tomorrow’s problems. They are surer of trouble falling on them than they are of blessings coming their way!

Their faith isn’t zero; it is 100% but negative!

Manna couldn’t last beyond the next morning. It was a design spec! When the Architect decided, the same fragile Manna lasted for two days!
