Hebrews 2 Commentary

Hebrews 2 Commentary

Jesus’ supremacy, how do we respond? Pay attention? No. More than that; pay “most careful attention”!

Verse 1 has the word, ‘therefore’. It’s literature technology that begs action based on a stated fact. This book is full of this technology! It connects the required action to a statement of fact. Look at it as a task list!

The Christian walk isn’t a casual stroll in the park! Most careful attention is required, otherwise you drift. Verse 1.

Our salvation isn’t without God’s stamp – physical signs, wonders, various miracles, and the gifts of the Holy Spirit distributed according to His will. Verse 4. Christianity isn’t simply another school of thought!

Jesus’ impossibly higher position – ever higher position each time you measure, is appropriately set against man’s special position in creation. “What is mankind that you are mindful of them, a son of man that you care for him?”

Man’s special position isn’t exactly what it should be, sadly. But we have Jesus in the equation. He became human to lead us back to our special position as desired and designed by the Creator God. How did Jesus do this? The answer lies in the suffering Servant. Isaiah 53 has the details.

By His death, Jesus broke the power of the devil. It is broken! Ponder.

Jesus was made fully human so that he might become a merciful and faithful high priest. This is amazingly beautiful! The LORD can free us from the power of the enemy! If the saint can accept it, the devil’s power is already broken! Calvary did it!

Christianity that comes without authority and power over the devil is both dead and useless. It’s fake; don’t buy it. Christianity without the power to overcome temptations in the manner of Jesus Christ is worthless. Then we know our target!
