Romans 1 Commentary

LGBTQX is not a new invention. First-century preacher and missionary, Paul, reveals the origins of wickedness. It predates his own time. It goes back to a moment humanity decided to ignore the Creator God.

Appendage ‘x’ in the acronym represents whatever the devil might think of. “…they invent ways of doing evil…” Verse 30.

LGBTQX isn’t a disease. It is a collection of symptoms of a disease the Apostle Paul calls idolatry – the rejection of the Creator God.

There is more: evil, greed, depravity, envy, murder, strife, deceit, and malice. They are gossips, slanderers, God-haters, insolent, arrogant, and boastful; no understanding, no fidelity, no love, no mercy. The list is only limited by their imagination.

Saints are more concerned with the disease than the symptoms! Of course, the symptoms are a terrible watch.

On the ‘right’ side of the ring is the Jesus team. Paul commends their spirituality. The Romans to whom this letter is addressed are a collection of Gentile believers, with undoubtedly some Jews in the mix. They have received the message of Jesus with gladness and are obedient to His instructions.

Team Jesus comprises men and women drawn from the trash heap – the condemned. Under the conditions of Salvation, everyone qualifies. Jesus can clean you up and clothe you with His righteousness; your title changes.

And who is this Jesus? He is a descendant of David. David is a component in the history-long Abrahamic promise. He warmed the seat pending the Messiah’s arrival- the scepter’s owner. He is also the Son born to us. He is the Son of God with proven credentials. He rose from the dead! He is the one who pulls you from the trash heap.

The wrath of God multiplies as wickedness multiplies. The author seems to equate wickedness itself to a portion of God’s wrath. The more wicked a man becomes, the more miserable they are. Misery, dissatisfaction, and emptiness increase with each increase in sinfulness. There are no happy sinners! It is a lie that sin can produce peace.

Seen a smart brain without the knowledge of the Most High God? Know you have met a fool. Verse 22.
