Ezekiel 10 Commentary
Chapters 10 and 1 are similar. Confusion. Yes, that is the feeling one gets trying to understand the physical manifestation of the likeness of the presence of the LORD. Ezekiel saw the likeness of the throne of the LORD – of lapis lazuli. The base of the glory of the LORD is yet another infinitely complex set of creatures called cherubim or angles.
The cherubim have got wings and a complex set of wheels for mobility. Then the faces, the eyes, and the hands! And the man in linen! Whatever Ezekiel is talking about!
The point is: humanity cannot understand the presence of the LORD. Our senses fail us. See how Ezekiel struggles to describe what he has seen! Poor Ezekiel!
Yet there is communication in all of this. We need to keep reading. The man in linen is making yet another special appearance and carries out the instructions of the LORD. The man in linen is called by what he is; other personalities or creatures are described and the word ‘like’ is used.
A man once walked among us; he preached the news of the Kingdom of Heaven. The LORD hasn’t left us without communication!
