Ezekiel 3 Commentary
You would think it’s a great sermon to encourage preachers of the Word to drench themselves in the Word. Wait until you read the scripture! The usual word is ‘eat’. The Word must be part of you. You become what you eat! And it is sweet, contrary to the common perception.
Interestingly, it must be consumed before you can taste its sweetness.
Thus, Ezekiel is commissioned. But there are more notes.
“Don’t be afraid; don’t be terrified by them,” the LORD says. Saints must overcome fear and terror otherwise there is no ministry at all.
And after we have done all, including listening carefully, another human problem still exists in ministry. Ezekiel is warned in advance. He has to preach whether they listen or not. Prosperity is a natural component of a human being. We all want to succeed. We are meant to achieve. The LORD asks Ezekiel to do the impossible; keep working regardless of the results. “What is the point of this project?” Ezekiel shouldn’t ask questions like this.
Then the Glory of the LORD – the infinitely complex and impossible physical manifestation of the presence of the LORD – lifts and Ezekiel is transported to his ministry post, at Tel Aviv near the Kebar River. Ezekiel’s ‘strange’ ministry of strange ‘actions’ commences but importantly, the LORD’s presence is still there.
