Psalm 93 Commentary
The Majesty of the LORD
Who doesn’t stand in awe of God’s creation? Man’s built environment gives us a ‘wow’ experience but nothing beyond that. But nature speaks. It informs man about the God of creation.
Sea storms, wild and roaring, they are a living phenomenon. They speak of strength, persistence, and presence.
The psalmist sees the throne of God in the waves. It is eternal and powerfully majestic. It exerts its presence in the world that it established.
The waves give you both the feel of permanence and the feel of constant change at the same time. The constant activity gives you the feel of unending strength. The psalmist applies all these attributes to the throne of God. When you experience nature, you immediately know you are looking at something beyond a model. God manifests His nature in His creation but only in part.
There is more to God’s throne. It is a throne of rigid statues. They stand firm. Holiness adorns the palace.
The psalmist describes the throne of God in glowing terms: majesty, splendor, eternal, strength, firm, and holy. The LORD hasn’t abandoned the throne. His reign is eternal.
How come so much wickedness exists under the holy throne? This question is answered by Calvary.
