Joshua 21 Commentary: Levi is scattered in Israel
Like that special room that the LORD Jesus has gone to prepare for you is this piece of land to Israel. The exodus was about this same piece of land. An enslaved nation, now freed, must be resettled under freedom and the leadership of the LORD. Yes, according to the original plan. A revision was made to the original plan which saw priests come into the picture as the proxy between Israel and God.
We know the priests are being scattered throughout Israel in fulfilment of Jacob’s blessing to scatter errant Simeon and Levi. But the picture here is also covering the need for priests to scatter in Israel in order to provide the required priestly services, as proxies.
Then the chapter closes with this book’s human author’s assessment of events leading up to this point. You would wish the Bible ended here. “So the Lord gave Israel all the land he had sworn to give their ancestors, and they took possession of it and settled there. The Lord gave them rest on every side, just as he had sworn to their ancestors. Not one of their enemies withstood them; the Lord gave all their enemies into their hands. Not one of all the Lord’s good promises to Israel failed; every one was fulfilled”
Amen.
