God Is In Charge!
Psalm 75 Commentary
The psalmist declares the praises of the El-Shaddai God. He is the Judge. He times everything. He steadies the ship. Confusion won’t last. Let the wicked hear this message.
In a world of unlimited confusion, the saint is left wondering if the LORD has full control of events. At times, we begin to magnify satan for the happenings. He is responsible for A, B, and C. The world says it. Satan says it. He appears to have control over success. The saint remembers satan’s word: “All this I will give you,” he said, “if you will bow down and worship me.”
Probably, it is to this kind of thought that this psalm addresses itself. The LORD retains ultimate control of events. He brings one down, he exalts another. It is the LORD and not satan. Yet, satan wants to take the praise for everything. Lies. Always lying.
This psalm pictures the Creator God as having ultimate control of time and space. He chooses the appointed time. But even in between these key decisions, the LORD still holds His own, lifting up one and demoting the other, while sustaining the earth. There is probably no blank space in between.
This thought is important for the saint who may feel like the LORD leaves behind blanks for satan to fill in. No. Instead, let the saint burst into a song of praise to the El-Shaddai God who, alone, does wonderful deeds. Anyone who cares can investigate. No one from the east or the west fits the bill. Indeed, He is worthy of praise!
