2 Chronicles 5 Commentary

2 Chronicles 5 Commentary

There was nothing in the ark except the two tablets that Moses had placed in it at Horeb.

So, all this trouble and expense was for this small box containing two pieces of stone! Yes, because these two stones had God’s word written on them and represented the presence of the LORD!

In this chapter, this all-important box has come to reside in the especially purpose-built Most Holy Place.

The LORD had reduced the history-long blessing into a covenant with Abraham. And now Abraham’s seed has expanded into a prosperous community of many peoples. They carry with them the LORD’s blessing as a national treasure.

Then they praised God, saying, “He is good; His love endures forever.”

Praise could easily be the most difficult part of worship. How does the saint get to say this in the midst of real trouble? How does the saint reconcile the fact of God’s love never failing with the circumstances of real pain and suffering?

Praise is a 24/7 requirement. Every Christian must offer it.

As the praises went up, the Glory of the LORD descended in the form of the cloud – the physical manifestation of the presence of the LORD amongst His people.

The chapter ends like the very last verses of the Book of Exodus. Just as in the Book of Exodus, the LORD specially commissions His dwelling place. A cloud descends, and the priests stand down from their activities!

This moment signified a new start under the lordship of the Creator God. However, we want to keep an eye on this space.
