1 Kings 7 Commentary
The Chapter begins by giving us details of Solomon’s palace. The details are not needless. The holy script shows us the power of Solomon. It shows us the level of blessing as manifested in the size of the palaces that he built. It is the power and wealth of the nation of Israel on display.
The chapter quickly returns to the Temple. More objects are made.
The last verse of the chapter talks about the items that David had given to the LORD. They are brought into the Temple and stored in the store rooms of the Temple. This picture is beautiful!
There are store rooms in Heaven. The treasure we must store there may include your generosity.
The temple was God’s house. Look at the items that were made. Like any normal house, the temple required lighting, and so the lampstands were made. The LORD needed to eat and so the tables were made. The LORD needed His own special room, and so the Most Holy room was made.
Israel wasn’t foolish. They knew these were merely symbols of the realities that exist beyond our full knowledge.
Even Solomon knew that the Creator God, the LORD God Almighty, cannot be contained in a house made by humans. The days of the real Son who would build the real house for the LORD are anticipated here.
The real house of the LORD is your heart. The Son, Jesus Christ, builds it for His Father to live in. Salvation is about surrendering one’s life so that Jesus can make it good enough for the LORD to live in.
