1 Samuel 17b Commentary

1 Samuel 17b Commentary

We can observe that the Spirit of God is behind all the deliverances for Israel. We find the same statement with just about every judge: The Spirit of the LORD came upon him…

David isn’t different. King Saul’s good early days weren’t different.

So we find ourselves in familiar territory when we hear these words: “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has chosen me to bring good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to set free the oppressed.

Then we hear, “I am going to send you what my Father has promised; but stay in the city until you have been clothed with power from on high.”

The saint is on a mission. This mission won’t be accomplished without the empowerment from Heaven – the Spirit of the LORD.

When we read the New Testament and the role of the Holy Spirit, we know we are talking about the same workspace.
