Deuteronomy 10 Commentary
Chapter 10 gives us an idea of how the scripture came to us. The LORD God first verbally proclaims the Ten Commandments to Israel.
Then Moses was instructed to provide two stone tablets as the paper on which the LORD God printed the Ten Commandments. Let there be a permanent record of the Ten Commandments!
The two-page book was stored in a wooden box called the Ark. The box would become central to Israel’s worship. You could say Israel’s worship system was based on the contents of the wooden box – the Ten Commandments. Religion made simple!
Fear God; follow His ways. Love and serve Him.
Fear is a state. It’s a posture you assume towards your maker. Following His ways is in the walk. You step where He steps. Love has to do with affection. Service could be spelled as duty. You perform as assigned. It’s a full lineup!
Israel was a foreigner in Egypt. How they wished for better treatment! Let Israel treat others with the same treatment they wished for themselves.
Verse 22 is interesting. Between 70 and “numbers as many as the stars in the sky” are births and deaths. Natural deaths and cruel deaths like Pharaoh’s decree to kill the boys. Through it all, the LORD still claims ultimate control of events. The nation prospered in Egypt!
