Deuteronomy 9 Commentary

Deuteronomy 9 Commentary

Not because of Israel’s righteousness. Canaanite peoples will be driven out because of their own wickedness.

We could conclude that Canaanite peoples will be driven out not because Israel needs land. God has enough land for the two peoples! God doesn’t have to sink your neighbor’s boat to keep yours afloat!

There is always enough land for the righteous, regardless of your language, tribe, nation, or gender!

Israel is a stiff-necked people. There is sufficient evidence to support this assertion. The golden calf experience at Horeb underlines Israel’s faithlessness and unfaithfulness.

Israel must love Abraham’s God, the Creator God exclusively. There isn’t space for anything else or something else.

But what was the difference between Israel and the Canaanites? Didn’t Israel also sin at Horeb?

Moses was the difference. Moses provided mediation, and Israel survived. This pointed to Calvary and what it all means to humanity. Mediation is available. You don’t have to die for your sins when mediation is available!
