Numbers 15 Commentary
The LORD God looks to the future. There is a generation to invest in. The older, sinful, and stiff-necked generation must be phased out. The new generation must learn the ways of the LORD. So, the laws are repeated.
Of course, Chapter 15 is strange. It pretends like nothing happened in chapters 13 and 14. The LORD God has turned a page. The older generation isn’t the audience though they are still around!
In verse 14, we see the LORD’s generosity. A foreigner can worship the God of Abraham just like a native-born!
You want to skip verse 30 but it’s still in the holy script. Intentional sin is punishable by death. You will have treated the LORD God with contempt!
Who isn’t guilty? Yes, the LORD God does look to the future. Probably the LORD God has Calvary in mind!
In the immediate context, men and women have reminders to ensure they keep God’s command.
Ignorance isn’t an excuse. Loss of memory isn’t an excuse. No one escapes with forgetfulness. The smart excuses we have won’t work. Obedience is always a serious situation.
