Numbers 9 Commentary

Numbers 9 Commentary: First Passover observed outside of Egypt.

It remained a symbol of God’s generosity. So important is the Passover that it survived the all-conquering hand of Calvary! We still observe it as the Holy Communion. We have the realities of what the Passover meant in Yeshua the Messiah.

The key line is memory; let the saint remember – as often as possible.

Some people couldn’t observe the Passover on account of a dead body – it made them unclean and consequently, ineligible to participate in the Passover.

Moses orders them to wait.

Waiting upon the LORD involves allowing time to pass until the answer comes. Prayer is often called “waiting upon the LORD,” as it literally means “waiting.”

We see more “waiting upon the LORD” as the “Cloud by day” or “Fire by night” determines Israel’s camping or decamping.

We have seen how the LORD instructs Moses through an audible voice. We first encountered this audible voice through the burning bush, probably not too far from where Israel is camped in this chapter. We also saw Moses hear the audible voice from the LORD’s presence above the Ark of the Covenant.

We can add the “Cloud” and the “Fire” to the list of how the LORD spoke. There wasn’t any audible voice but Israel knew they needed to move whenever the Cloud lifted. Ponder

The saint must learn to move or stay…not as dictated by weather or economic conditions, but as guided by the LORD.

A world that has conditioned us to be our own gods constantly threatens an ‘obedient walk’ with the LORD. We often plan before we seek guidance in prayer!
