Leviticus 10b Commentary: Don’t Drink While On Duty And In The Presence Of The LORD
“You and your sons are not to drink wine or other fermented drink … so that you can distinguish between the holy and the common, between the unclean and the clean.” Verses 9 and 10.
These two verses provide a strong basis against the consumption of wine and other fermented drinks.
We cannot conclude that Nadab and Abihu desecrated the Sanctuary while in a drunken state. But we definitely know the LORD forbade drunkenness to avoid this kind of mistake.
Drunkenness plays with an individual’s ability to distinguish between the holy and the common. Saints must stay away from substances, technology, entertainment, and activities that have the potential to cause drunkenness. The holiness of the heart and the body remains a top priority!
The instruction “must not drink” means avoidance of even the initial processes to drunkenness.
Drunkenness is always associated with the worship of satan. Not too long ago, we saw drunkenness and sexual immorality with the “golden calf”. Beer cafes are sexual immorality points; they are satanic worship systems!
The LORD God instructs His children, the priests, to stay away from this kind of evil. The worship of the Creator God won’t have this kind of wickedness!
The New Testament lists drunkenness as an “act of the flesh”. Galatians 5 verse 19. You miss heaven with this kind of wickedness – the same verse.
Many substances and things cause drunkenness, including virtual reality and entertainment. We could apply this thought and think about activities that could lead to drunkenness. Many may appear innocent!
