Leviticus 8 Commentary

Leviticus 8 Commentary

Aaron is consecrated. Both the sin and burnt offerings are slaughtered accordingly but not before a water bath. Physical cleansing is important. It represents the desired cleanliness of the heart.

The process takes 7 days. It points to the need to be given to the LORD completely. No partial engagement!

Aaron is washed before being dressed. The dress has the equipment necessary for him to function as a priest. Believers need tools to function as ministers.

Aaron’s garment is an armory. This armory is comparable to the dress code in the Book of Ephesians.

We have the belt of truth and the sword of the Spirit as part of the armor of God. Aaron’s garment represents holiness to the LORD, justice, intercession, direction, and decision-making. Today’s priest must dress similarly to reflect proper preparedness for work.

The ordination process is long but it is not equivalent to becoming a Christian. It could detail the process of sanctification for the saint. Sanctification does take time. It is a process that involves killing sinful aspects of our lives as represented by the killing of animals. The fact that this process takes seven days points to a life time process for the saint.

“Burnt Offering” is an indispensable part of the process. It represents a continued relationship with the LORD – a good relationship where the LORD God receives the sweet aroma continually. It’s meant to last a lifetime. The seven days suggest completeness.

Salvation isn’t cheap! Point to Calvary and know it isn’t cheap!
