Leviticus 6 Commentary
We are reminded of the story of Zacchaeus. His repentance came with a promise to pay back four times as much of whatever he had cheated others. He is a real Jew! He is probably making good on this rule of restitution. It is part of restoration.
If all of us were to repay whatever we got by dishonesty means, many would be poorer than their own house servants! Even nations in debt may be better than the most developed nations! You easily understand why no one wants to read the Bible!
Leviticus isn’t just a difficult book to read; more importantly, nearly all the pages are as unpalatable as these opening verses.
Here is what we have seen before. While sin has negative consequences on humans, God is the victim.
Wickedness makes us feel bits and pieces of sadness because of deposits of godliness within each one of us.
More details are added regarding “Burnt Offerings”. Ash becomes important. Its disposal is detailed. We can see it as a detailed procedure for “Burnt Offerings” of Chapter 1.
Keep the fire burning! Keep confessions and repentance flowing! Let the Grace of the LORD keep flowing! “Burnt Offering” may be referred to as an “upward offering”. The consequence is an upward-flowing sweet aroma to the LORD. Keep it flowing! 24/7.
As part of ordination, the priest is required to bring to the LORD an offering. It isn’t a fee. It’s worship!
