Exodus 8 Commentary

Exodus 8 Commentary

Chapter 3 gives us 3 signs but Pharaoh remains hardened. The first sign ‘of frogs’ is duplicated but the second and third signs are too hard for Pharaoh’s magicians.

Probably Pharaoh thinks his magicians haven’t just worked hard enough. So he rejects Moses and Aaron.

This chapter tells us a lot about the “secret arts”. It’s not all fake. It is real. At the same time, it’s not all real. Deception is part of the game.

Mortals don’t possess magical powers. Satan is the power behind the magicians. But his power is limited. Yes, limited but with widespread consequences. The magicians could cause an infestation of frogs on the land of Egypt!

The power game between the LORD God, the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob – and the other gods, is important as a showdown battle for a man’s heart. Of course, it’s no battle at all in reality. The LORD has no equal!

Mortals believed the magicians and the gods controlled events. So the LORD unpacked a series of signs to prove mortals wrong and win their hearts.

Nothing has changed. Even today, mortals believe in several gods. They may not go by the same names. Many fear because they think a few powerful men control the world’s economy and direction. They fear these men or the unknown powers could unleash trouble on the planet anytime. Yes, they can but the saint knows better.

The LORD God is all-powerful! The gods don’t stand a chance! The magicians and those pulling the strings (like Pharaoh) cannot stand in the way.

We can also see what it takes to save a soul. It’s never a political or economic situation. The gods must fall!

Pharaoh is no longer his own man. The LORD God has taken over. He is now a tool. The LORD God hardens his heart again so that many other gods can fall. The battle shouldn’t leave you with “some” strength lest you start thinking of a rematch! The LORD God breaks you completely so that your trust can never be divided again, ideally.

So we have a few more rounds but that is for Chapter 9.
