Genesis 29b Commentary

Genesis 29b Commentary

Deception feels ‘nice’ until you are the victim. Probably the LORD allows it on Jacob so that he can learn one or two things about deception. We also know this could be lesson 1 in grade 1. There are a couple of grades to scale!

“It is not our custom here to give the younger daughter in marriage before the older one.” Equally, it wasn’t a custom to give the blessing to the younger son ahead of the older one! But deception does it! The Spirit plays these thoughts in a human mind to help it come to terms with the realities of human error.

The process of cleansing for the saved soul may involve ‘practicals’ for the saint to appreciate the holiness of their calling.

Deception introduces an imbalance in relationships: one is loved while the other is not loved. The LORD God introduces balance. Leah’s womb is opened while Rachel’s womb is closed – the law of compensation at play.

The LORD God does think of the marginalized. He gives them things to outdo the privileged. Leah shouldn’t fall into depression. Look around you and enjoy the balance of the LORD. The saint has both: balance in one area and imbalance in another area. It is the doing of the LORD!

Leah has four sons: Reuben, Simeon, Levi, and Judah.
