Revelation 19b Commentary

Revelation 19b Commentary

The identity of the rider of the white horse isn’t a difficult puzzle. Verse 15 describes the rider as one who “will rule with an iron scepter”. Then we know Jesus is the rider! Many crowns on His head mean He is king in all areas and spheres of existence.

Strangely, He “treads the winepress of the fury of the wrath of God Almighty.” A strange title for the gentle Jesus indeed! Of course, not anymore; He strikes down the nations with His sharp sword. He is King over kings and LORD over all the lords. Pilate will know that his boss, Caesar, reports to the King!

The beast will wage war against the rider. Could this be another mention of Armageddon? Or, could this be another mention of the war that the saint is up against as recorded in Ephesians 6? See how the rider (Rider) uses the sword – the word of God! And see how the saint is armed in Ephesians with the sword, which is the word of God!

As stated yesterday, could this portion point us to happenings “now” where we see the saint engaged in the battle against “the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms”?

Again, remember how the dragon (beast) waged war against the offspring of the woman! Chapter 12.

The saint is at war. But the saint isn’t alone. Leading the army at the battlefront is the Rider. Why should this be difficult to believe? Hasn’t He clearly mentioned that He will always be with us? Immanuel.

Yes, we have the saint today. Yes, we have the dragon or the beast today. Yes, we have the rulers, authorities, powers of this dark world, and the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Yes, the battle is on.

Revelation looks to the future but we shouldn’t miss the “happening-right-now” concept.

We shouldn’t forget where we are coming from. The church exists next to the synagogue of satan, where satan has his throne, and Jezebel is at work (the woman, calls herself the prophet, the false prophet).

Jezebel is a present conception. She has always existed since the fall of man – the woman. But there is also another woman with the son (the seed of the woman – Genesis). The son born to us, with the government on His shoulders. She has her own offspring – the Church. The dragon is up against the offspring of the woman. Creation at war!

Revelation brings all these pieces together as a final act in the drama of creation.

But the reader is always warned never to take these graphics word for word. Always keep in mind the word of the Spirit in other places, especially the gospel of John, the letters by the same great apostle, and the Book of Ephesians which details the shape, size, and color of the battle.

Of course, and as the Master promised, He will come in glory to take His church to Himself. This event is also part of the Revelation complex.
