Revelation 19 Commentary

Revelation 19 Commentary

We could look at the Book of Revelation as a timeline. It starts from the time the vision is given and written down. It runs down to the final day, the day of the LORD – the return of Jesus in full glory!

Take the same view and include events in the distant past, from the beginning. John will still be a happy man because of his love for the beginning, even the beginning of all things.

Think of the Book as a stage. Humans are actors. There are other actors: The Lamb, the angels (receiving instructions from the Lamb), the beast, the beasts, and the representatives of the beast. Institutions are also on stage: The church (the woman) and the world (the woman, Babylon).

Real things happen on the stage. They appear to represent a miniature version of the other realities yet to come.

At the same time, Revelation means the word itself. It uncovers the realities we often ignore. We live in a world where politicians are politicians. Businessmen are businessmen. Corruption is innovation. Deception is imaging and branding. LGBTQ is a human right conception.

Revelation wants you to see the world of the beast and beasts. The Ephesians would have received another letter where the Spirit mentioned “rulers, authorities, powers of this dark world, and spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.”

Chapter 19 may give us all these angles. It’s a beautiful scenario!

The beast is defeated but what is the timing of this defeat? The presence of the blood-soaked garment of the Lamb may define Calvary as the moment of defeat for the beast.

You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world. 1 John 1 verse 4.

“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” John 16 verse 33.

The Master spoke about His victory even before Calvary! We may have to read Revelation in view of John’s Gospel and his letters for a better understanding. The same Spirit spoke except we have a different vehicle for the message to the author.

The children are from God and they ride behind the Lamb on a white horse in victory. It was a present situation in John’s time. The saint is victorious in the name of the Master – the LORD Jesus Christ.
