Revelation 16 Commentary

Revelation 16 Commentary

There is no intention to repeat the plagues of Egypt but the parallel is clear. The motive is the same. Can the people repent?

Of course, they don’t.

You guess repentance would do the trick but who cares!

How often have we heard people accuse God of negligence when natural disasters come? Can we still talk about a God of love given these terrible events? They ask this question as they dismiss the thought that God cares.

In times of relief, others curse God with a smile. God never does anything, so life can continue as they indulge in wickedness.

The plagues also serve as punishment. The LORD avenges the blood of His servants. We know these plagues are end-time events because the scripture says so. And it appears these events come after the earth is harvested. In one way or the other, the servants of the LORD are isolated from these events.

The persecution and killing of the servants of the LORD are always a public spectacle. We don’t expect the avenging of the same to be a secret operation that the perpetrators of evil won’t even notice. We know they are still there walking and boasting about their wickedness. Then we can tell these events haven’t taken place.

Now is the time for the sinner. They do as they deem fit. But Revelation is written as a stern warning that the time for action against wickedness comes. The saint is also warned to “stay awake”.

Justice is served. The Holy One is right. Always right. It’s a conclusion we shall all make.
