In Matthew 24, there is a mention that God would shorten the days of trouble for the sake of the elect. We found more generosity in the promise to the church in Philadelphia: “I will also keep you from the hour of trial that is going to come on the whole world to test the inhabitants of the earth.

Chapter 7 continues the events of the sixth seal. Incredibly terrible times must wait because God wants to shield His servants from trouble. There are times when Heaven isolates God’s servants from trouble.

Then 144,000 are sealed. This is the first category. The other category consists of countless servants of the LORD from “every nation, tribe, people, and language.” It’s a celebration of God’s generosity. It’s a throwback to the first Passover when Israelite homes were sealed by the blood of the “Lamb” in Egypt.

There is never a background, nation, tribe, or a people too dark to disqualify someone from the Lamb’s sacrifice. A handsome fee was paid for the individual!

Numbers in the Hebrew culture have meanings or represent a concept. The number four as seen in the four living creatures and now four angels, may represent something important.

Don’t harm the land or the sea or the trees… The LORD isn’t angry with the land but with people. People depend on land, and so harming the land directly harms the people. You can tell the level of God’s favor by looking at the prosperity of the things humans depend on.

The closing verses contain great words of hope: The Lamb will be their shepherd. Interesting! One would think a lamb cannot be a shepherd! But this Lamb needs no shepherd; He himself is the Shepherd! He leads others to springs of living water.

These concepts highlight the multiple faces of the same Jesus. He is on the other side of creation as the Creator God, the LORD God Almighty. But, at the same time, and this side of creation, He calls us brothers and sisters in the Assembly of God’s children. Hebrews 2:12-13.

Then you know our knowledge of Jesus isn’t exactly great!
