1 Peter 3 Commentary

1 Peter 3 Commentary

Peter uses the same word as Paul: Submit. This is for wives. Submission becomes an important tool in evangelism – wordless evangelism.

As many husbands would agree, a wife becomes uglier each time she argues disrespectfully. But “a gentle and quiet spirit” counts for unfading beauty! Wordily feminism is a source of great confusion to the values of the holy script. Saints must stay the path of the holy script.

Considerate, respect, or kind would underline the husband’s attitude toward the wife. Paul uses the word “love”. Ephesians 5 verse 25. A loveless husband shouldn’t expect his prayers to hit top speed! It is always a reverse gear!

Love for other saints is a command. Its cousins, Compassion and Humility, are part of the package! That’s our calling!

It could be God’s will to suffer for doing good. Verse 17. This verse leaves room for the argument that there are times when our suffering isn’t God’s will. In this case, we must pray to the LORD for deliverance (from the evil one). Prayer exists as a mechanism to seek the face of the LORD when suffering hits – suffering which the LORD hasn’t ordained.

In many cases, prayer is needed so the saint can bear up honorably in the face of suffering. The LORD is honored when we suffer with Christ for obeying His will.
