Titus 3 Commentary

Titus 3 Commentary

The instruction “to be gentle toward everyone” can easily become a disadvantage. How else do you invite abuse? Isn’t meekness a recipe for failure? Aren’t individuals doing good work subtracting from their wealth? Isn’t a gentle person taken for a weak spirit whose life the strong easily toy with?

Hasn’t the LORD put us in this position where we suffer for following His roadmap? The opening verses are tough nuts in a world that thrives on deception. Gentleness is like water for a diesel car; it won’t just run! It’s a product that won’t just sell! Not in our world!

All this like He doesn’t know! Jesus knows! He went to His cross for doing good! Saints must accept this version of the Christian walk. It isn’t always smooth! But the LORD makes no mistakes. He is ever just, righteous, and perfect! Deuteronomy 32 verse 4. “A faith God who does no wrong.” Then you know you aren’t stupid!

We are subjects of mercy; justified by His grace!

The Christian walk is this simple! Don’t complicate it with endless arguments. Avoid an individual whose career is to debate Christianity. Christianity is in the walk and not the talk!

Verse 14 underlines diligence. That’s how needs are to be met! You would guess it all comes to these basics: hard work, useful work, and intelligent work!  The saint knows the reason for doing so – “To provide for urgent needs.” It is never for rankings, vanity, or social media status!

Titus is addressed to an individual church leader, Titus. It is like a syllabus for his sermons. We find expectations and benchmarks for the saint, whether the pulpit man or the pew man.
