2 Corinthians 6 Commentary
You would guess Paul’s letter to the Church in Corinth is dated earlier than the Gospel of Luke. Yet the apostle echoes the words of the Master on the “Acceptable year of God’s favor”. Let not the church miss it!
The favor of the Sovereign Creator God comes with Jesus Christ. In turn, the LORD Jesus commissions His disciples to “make disciples of all nations”. Paul uses the term co-workers with all these thoughts in mind. But to complete this task, they have to wait for the Holy Spirit – to have the same tools for the task as Jesus Christ (The Spirit of the LORD is upon me – Luke 4 verse 18)
You easily understand why the Spirit or the Holy Spirit is constantly referenced.
Verse 4: The co-workers are now slaves. The saints’ relationship with their Father is complex!
“Complex” is one word we can use to describe everything else “Christian”. “Known, yet regarded as unknown; dying, and yet we live on; beaten, and yet not killed; sorrowful, yet always rejoicing; poor, yet making many rich; having nothing, and yet possessing everything.
HAVING NOTHING, YET POSSESSING EVERYTHING. Can it get any more complex?
And then an important injunction: Do not be yoked together with unbelievers… It is a mark of distinction. Ponder.
“Come out from them and be separate, says the Lord. Touch no unclean thing, and I will receive you.”
We cannot mix; we cannot compromise. You probably want to check your list of friends, choices, fashions, places of entertainment… We cannot be the same as the unbelievers. Come out of them and be separate, the command remains.
