1 Corinthians 6 Commentary

1 Corinthians 6 Commentary

Why not rather be wronged? Why not rather be cheated? Verse 7. Recheck it and see how failure to accept this situation results in trouble.

If you take your brother to court, it means you have not accepted to be wronged. Accept to be wronged; accept that the offender from church may not even apologize. Accept to be cheated. That’s the meaning of carrying one’s cross!

At the root of this sin pile is pride. Who does he think he is? How dare she treat me this way? Ever produced these words? Know pride knocked and you gladly said, ‘Welcome’. That’s the spelling for ‘defeat’.

A willingness to accept shame, scorn, loss, and defeat is a way to purity. You will have carried your cross with Jesus!

Men who have sex with men won’t inherit the kingdom of God. Verse 9. Of course, it matters less to a world that has zero premium on eternity under the feet of the Creator God – the LORD Jesus Christ. But these instructions serve to remind the saint that they must define the boundaries even more strongly.

On Heaven’s exclusion list is the drunkard. Note that the scripture hasn’t talked about beer. So brilliant! The scripture points to all substances, objects, devices, or even acts that may lead the saint to a point of drunkenness. Virtual reality deserves special mention as it is the newest, innocent-looking drunkenness beast. Drunkenness is any state of the mind and body, rather than the natural state, that men and women may acquire or attain via substance abuse or technology abuse.

We could include abuse of bodily interactions via what we see, hear, or even feel. You could watch a movie full of violence and sinful scenes. Or read a bad book and fail to pray afterward. You got drunk!

Marriage redefined! You become one with the person you sleep with. You experience multiple marriages each time you sleep with multiple individuals. Verses 16 and 17. If you sleep with the prostitute, you become one with her in the body! Marriage redefined!

Flee from sexual immorality. Verse 18. Don’t sin against your own body. When you steal from James, James is poorer by the same amount that you have stolen. Importantly, you have a case before God’s throne. Sexual sin may not harm James but it will harm your own body – of course, in addition to Heaven’s court’s situation. Sexual sin harms the body of the offender…God knows how but it does harm the offender.

The saint’s body is the temple of the Holy Spirit. Honor God with it. Verses 19 and 20.
