1 Corinthians 2 Commentary

1 Corinthians 2 Commentary

As we have all seen, apologetics – the defense of Christianity and God’s existence – hasn’t achieved much. You may get a standing ovation but there isn’t much else. The word of the LORD has power all by itself. We cannot improve it.

Paul merely delivered the gospel. Then the power of the gospel did the rest. This power had nothing to do with miracles!

Details are important. In the scriptures, the Holy Spirit is speaking. The preacher is always reminded to empty himself, remove eloquence and brilliance of presentation, and merely deliver the gospel. The Holy Spirit speaks to individuals.

But who says the Holy Spirit won’t speak through eloquence? Who can restrict the work of the Spirit? But when the danger exists to divert attention from the LORD to eloquence and brilliance of presentation, you know what wins the day. Paul won’t risk it. At the same time, we know the saint has a logical reason to believe what they believe.

You marvel at the lack of wisdom in the enemy camp! Real wisdom is the personification of divinity – the LORD Jesus Christ being Wisdom in Himself and by Himself. The lack of Jesus means we no longer wonder why wisdom is so lacking in many communities that foolishness is elevated to wisdom. The world is misled.

Who is the good guy? One man pleads with you to get out of the mud and enlists the help of the LORD in the process. The other man prints material reading, “MUD IS OK”. He wants you to remain there and be at home. But check the reality on the ground, are you truly fine in the mud? Your heart knows the truth. Check the realities of LGBTQX and know the journalist neighbor isn’t on your side. The believer, on the other hand, is your friend who seeks your deliverance.

Who understands plain truth? Is God’s wisdom still on the menu? Yes, for believers. How they enjoy it!

The Spirit searches all things. Verse 10. You can ask Him to search your heart. What is it that you really want? You may want to ask Him to search your heart for dark spots. Of course and for many of us, this operation is needless as the dark spots are known already. We simply ask for cleansing.
