Romans 3 Commentary

Verdict: All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. Verse 23.

‘All’ could be a reference to the three general groups we have encountered in the opening chapters of Romans. First: those that have rejected God (cultists, satanists, mystics – they go by all sorts of names). Second: The Jews (the Law of Moses guys). Third: The Gentiles (the rest who operate on common sense for moral guidance).

All are condemned. Jail should be the next word but the Judge says something truly amazing. “All are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus.” Verse 24.

The case hasn’t exactly been canceled; someone has gone to jail – Jesus. He has paid for our transgressions. The open rebellion of cultists – the LGBTQX team, the hypocrisy of Jews – the Law guys, and the weakness and wickedness of the Gentiles.

The forgiveness is received by faith. Verse 25. Justification is by faith. Faith may loosely be translated as TRUST. Trust in the LORD Jesus Christ.

This chapter presents bad news as well as good news. The bad news is that we all are as bad as the LGBTQX team – the same level of wickedness and are condemned with them! ALL HAVE SINNED.

The good news is that we all have the chance to receive justification by faith in the LORD Jesus Christ. The Holy Script specifically pulls down any hope that one can be saved by attempts to do good. It never, and will never work. It is never about works of righteousness as defined by the Law of Moses, or as defined by common sense.

You don’t have to try to be good to receive forgiveness. After forgiveness, you then can trust the LORD to produce good fruit in you.
