Acts 18 Commentary

Chapter 18 is a long period of trips and ministry in several places. Verse 23. But Paul isn’t alone in the harvest field. The Holy Spirit is at work through Apollos, Aquila, and Priscilla. Apollos is an eloquent teacher but not fully polished – but you won’t say the same about the Holy Spirit at work in this saint! That’s what matters! The LORD will use different tools – all with different shapes.

It is Luke’s way of writing that we often get key references to external historical dates. The Emperor Claudius’ order to eject all Jews from Rome is reported here to roughly coincide with Paul’s arrival at Corinth. Verse 2. What Jews have gone through!

We also learn that Paul was a tentmaker.

The Synagogue leader converts. Many other Corinthians also believe and are baptized. Amid many beatings, escapes, insults, and imprisonments, the Holy Spirit is still at work! His workshop isn’t at all neat!

Stephen, Paul, and now Apollos – people the Holy Spirit equipped with boldness, eloquence of thought, and special revelation of scriptures.! But there is a place for a Christian couple to sit down with the minister of the gospel for a chat.

Here is one for the gospel minister: someone in the pews may have a couple of lines for you. The Holy Spirit works like that!
