John 16 Commentary

John 16 Commentary

Every saint wishes to have lived during the time of Jesus’ earthly pilgrimage. Who wouldn’t love to host Jesus for a sumptuous meal like Martha, Mary, and Lazarus?

Drop it if you can. We have something better, Jesus declared. We have the Helper.

Among the many things the Spirit does is to prove to the world that they are wrong about sin and judgment. This is everything! A life of wickedness is a dead-ended road. Travelers are doomed. A trip into Vanity City is desperately empty of substance. The Spirit will put evidence on the table that His children are right in choosing the Light.

God does nothing, good or bad; so they say. They are wrong again. The Spirit will make it plain that the prince of this world stands judged for starters. It is over for him. An individual has the golden chance of thinking about their own fate.

The many things that Jesus wanted to say during this time, including the many questions that He didn’t answer are on the task list of the Spirit.

The saint can ask the Spirit to shed light on difficult areas of scripture and they will for sure get their answer. He sits in the same seat that the LORD Jesus sat on.

We see it in the Book of Acts. No amount of death threats took away the joy of the believers! They considered death a privilege. They honored their Master by faithfully fulfilling what He foretold. They rejoiced for doing so without renouncing the name of Jesus!

The world will make the saints suffer, but let them take heart, He has “defeated the world”. Verse 33.

Every day is a victory party for the saint!
