Luke 6b Commentary
This is a must-read text. Not these lines but verses 27 to 49 of today’s chapter! You read a couple of verses and you choke. You immediately know Christianity isn’t a walk in the park! You actually wonder if you are one!
You discover that many items on our prayer lists shouldn’t be there in the first place! If you are slapped on one cheek, offer the other cheek. Don’t revenge. Don’t seek to be avenged. Don’t do it yourself; don’t seek God’s hand in it. Instead, offer the other cheek!
Rules like this have left us look like terrible fools, or so we think.
“If anyone takes what belongs to you, do not demand it back.” Verse 30. Whatever the LORD means! Isn’t that a sure way to poverty? Dumb negligence. A lack of wisdom? Perhaps. Who reads these verses without a huge fight within their spirits?
A huge bomb dropped in your yard and the LORD orders that you don’t defuse it, even when you can! You are then ordered not to launch your own. Raise a white flag and send gifts to your enemy. You keep it happy with real smiles. This Jesus!
When we pray, “LORD bless us”, do we ever have this kind in mind?
It becomes worse. The LORD Jesus expects mercy from us at the same level as the Father!
You immediately know you need help. All of it.
