Matthew 7 Commentary

Matthew 7 Commentary

Imagine humans sitting down and having a dog as a judge! It is this kind of absurdity that the LORD discourages by banning mortals from judging others. How dare one attempt the office of the Immortal God! For starters, mortals are poorly equipped to sit in the office of a judge. Secondly, their own sinfulness cannot help them carry out a sacred function!

Yes, they do. The result is always more injustice and confusion! Remember the time you thought of avenging the trouble that someone caused you. The punishment you thought of for the offender was always doubly or infinitely higher than the offense. Many a petty thief has died at the hands of mob justice!

On the other hand, is our Father in heaven. He is perfect, and so are His gifts!

The kingdom of heaven is great news but few people find it. You don’t expect a red carpet for entering through the narrow gate! It is free entry with the Jesus ticket but people are warned of false gates. But you easily pick them out for their bad fruit.

Verse 22 is interesting. The LORD Jesus Christ points to yet another day! People will say to Him on that day, “Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name…” It is a time when the right Judge sits to preside over human affairs. The kingdom of heaven was both present and future!

Jesus is the rock on which men and women can build their lives. It can never fall! What encouragement!

This chapter concludes the Sermon on the Mount. As we can see, there is authority, not exactly like the other teachings! Regardless of the outward appearance, any other building that men may build cannot stand!
