Micah 3 Commentary

Coming up first are the leaders who Micah rebukes for injustice and their love for evil. They hate righteousness. The false prophets come up second. They are paid for lying.

Then the chapter brings up the third category. It is the Micah lot. They are filled with the Spirit and power to do God’s will. The saint belongs there – especially powered to accomplish justice and shine the light of God’s righteousness on the sinful world.

Yes, with the torch of God’s righteousness, what can you see?

Buildings everywhere. Everyone is building. The foundations are all different. Many build on the “foundation of murder and injustice”. The city rulers govern for bribes, the priests interpret the Law for pay, and the prophets give their revelations for money.

The impression given by these false and wrong building materials is that the LORD has blessed. But it is all false hope. The LORD promises to make “Jerusalem a pile of ruins”.

The saint must feel uncomfortable with the status quo. Murder, injustice, and corruption. These are all wrong foundations. These structures won’t stand because the LORD God commands their destruction.

The success we admire isn’t all clean. Check the foundation and you will see murder, injustice, and corruption. Then you know the LORD is at work in your life. Otherwise, you won’t see a thing and would love to do as they do. God forbid!
