Daniel 6 Commentary

Chapter 5 commenced the time of the Medes and Persians in place of the mighty Babylonian empire. Daniel is still alive and is made one of the three top administrators in the empire.

Daniel’s relationship with the LORD becomes his grave. He must die violently and painfully in the den of man-eating lions. But that is man’s plan and not God’s plan. The end result is a picture that may correctly be described as resurrection.

The LORD is with Daniel at his mansion; the LORD is with Daniel at the office; the LORD is with Daniel in the den of lions. He never leaves the saint. It is a fact that King Darius highlights at the end of the day. “He rescues and He saves; He performs signs and wonders in the heavens and on the earth. He is the living God and He endures forever; His kingdom will not be destroyed, His dominion will never end.”

Could this declaration be the purpose of the trying moment that Daniel goes through? If only for this and this only, can the saint still say it is worth it? How we need to pray for grace to have such moments and endure them to the glory of the King of kings!

Fact check: Saints can undergo intense trouble not because of any wrong they do but merely for being in good standing with the King of kings. The King of kings decides the point and the time of intervention; He is always on top of things. Thirdly, there comes a time when even the powerful, the most powerful hand in the land cannot save you. Darius must know this. And finally, even when the stone is placed over the saint’s tomb and sealed for zero escape, that isn’t the end. It is only the LORD who defines an end to anything.

“Then Darius wrote to all the nations and peoples of every language in all the earth.” Is there a better way to evangelize the world? We guess the devil didn’t know this outcome!

We also know these are important moments for the king or kings as we see both King Darius and King Cyrus get involved in the rebuilding of Jerusalem. The Book of Ezra, chapter 6. Who can understand the dealings of Heaven!
