Ezekiel 43 Commentary

Verses 10 and 11 seem to explain the purpose of these architectural drawings. The Temple is to be described to us and not to be constructed! We should consider its perfection against our imperfections and ponder our own gaps. My body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, how does it fare when put up against the perfection of the Temple we have been looking at over the last few days?

How thick are my walls separating the holy from the unholy? Is there enough room for the Most Holy Place?

Yes, the LORD wants to dwell among His people forever but there is a condition. Verse 9. Will the people put away idolatry?

The design, the entrances and exits, the shape, the arrangement of everything, and the rules and regulations point to elements of holiness in the Christian walk. Look at the design again and see how it compares with your own temple!

And the impossible vision of the physical manifestation of the presence of God of chapter 1! Here we have it again. Now we can have some important hints. The same impossible Presence now promises to dwell with the people forever.

“And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” Matthew 28 verse 20b. Is the impossible Presence the LORD Jesus Christ pre-incarnate? The prophets have described the Seed using various images. Among them King, Servant, Son of man, Son of David, Shepherd, Prophet, and High Priest. We can look at the image again and see the different manifestations of the Glory of the LORD in the LORD Jesus Christ. He is Immanuel – the LORD who lives among His people!

The image is still impossible because humanity isn’t capacitated to grasp the entire picture of the LORD God Almighty.

The Book of Hebrews shows us the importance of these rituals and we understand there is more. Calvary represented all these rituals. Those that have come to obedience under the authority and rule of the LORD Jesus Christ can be happy that they have sacrificed accordingly.
