Ezekiel 41 Commentary

In today’s world, chapters 41 to 42 would be a neat drawing on an A1 template. It is an architectural drawing. And it is impressive for the times! For starters, look at the thickness of the walls, 2.5 meters (8 feet)!

But what do we make of the many rooms in the LORD’s house? “My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you?” John 14 verse 2.

We must remind ourselves. The LORD takes Ezekiel on a ‘virtual’/vision tour of His future house. The guess is that this is the House expected to be erected in Jerusalem when the LORD restores His scattered people.

As history would have it, this House was never constructed! We now understand. Ezekiel viewed a model of the House that has always existed. My Father’s house has many rooms. It doesn’t have to be constructed; it already exists. Now we must turn our attention to the difficult task at hand. What does the LORD want us to see? We shall understand more as we navigate the pages of scripture.

The existence of a two-faced creature, human face, and lion face, may suggest the existence of a semi-divine being in the presence of the LORD. Before the fall and in the Garden of Peace and Tranquility, in Eden, mankind existed in holiness and righteousness. He lived in the presence of the LORD and it was perfectly secure. Probably that is the thought communicated by the thick walls. We have borrowed the thought of divinity associated with the ‘Lion of Judah’ expression, linked with the LORD Jesus Christ.

The ‘winged creatures’ would be angels. These probably represented the servants that attended the LORD in the House. It is a full cast!

The saint must look to the realities of Calvary and see how the Temple that the LORD constructed in three days is structured. For starters, there are many rooms in the House. No one needs to fear having no accommodation. The mercies of the LORD are sufficient and new every morning! It is a message of comfort but also an invitation to those who haven’t yet booked their accommodation in the afterlife.
