Psalm 6 Commentary

Psalm 6 Commentary

Who praises you from the grave? Is David trying to bribe God? Yes and no. Yes, because David is reminding the LORD of what is at stake should David die. There will be no more praise from David. No, because David is simply stating a fact of his own value in creation. If I die, an important function is also lost. Who wouldn’t love David for this? He is reminding the LORD that David is a packet of milk with good milk still inside. Let not God throw it away.

Our value is determined by the content inside. Prayer should be this real!

Then David points to his suffering. Let the LORD of mercy see it and act according to His love. And David wants it done soonest.

This prayer has an interesting ending. David looks at his enemies and declares that the LORD has heard his prayer. A successful prayer session leaves you with a feeling of peace and acceptance. Even when the physical situation around hasn’t changed, you have a witness within that the LORD has heard your prayer. This kind of praise is situational. And it leaves the saint with a deeper inner peace.

And in a special way, the LORD heals the wounded inside of David. From this position, he loudly declares victory over his enemies.
